Palestinian press castigates Abu Mazen

Palestinian press castigates Abu Mazen

Al-Khalil, June 8, IRNA -- Columnists and writers
in leading Palestinian newspapers in the West Bank
continued to castigate
Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas
for "compromising Palestinian rights" and "acting
sycophantically to appease Zionists and the
Americans."

"How could the Prime Minister issue such a
sweeping condemnation of our noble struggle
against a foreign military occupation," asked
Ghazi al Khalili, in his column published in the
Palestinian daily
newspaper, Al-Ayyam, Sunday.

Al-Khalili pointed out that Abbas was
conspicuously unscrupulous in his denunciation of
violence in the summit in Aqaba last week.
"He (Abbas) shouldn´t have equated our
resistance against a sinister military occupation
with violence against civilians and innocent
people."

Another columnist, Hani Habib, castigated
Abbas´ "vacuous pledge to combat incitement
against Israel."
"Who is inciting against whom? Is it the
Palestinians who are practising hatred, violence
and terror against Israel? Are they occupying
Israel´s land?," wrote Habib, also in Al-Ayyam.

Moreover, talk and phone-in programs on
Palestinian radios and television stations showed
a clear opposition to Abbas´ speech in Aqaba.

Some callers even demanded the immediate
resignation of Abbas for what was described as his
"disloyalty" to the Palestinian cause....""
